Frequently asked questions
What is Popcorn Room?
A group movie-picking app. Friends join a private room, swipe through a shared deck of titles, and the app surfaces the one everyone agreed on - so you spend the night watching, not scrolling.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no email required. You join anonymously with just a display name, which can be a nickname.
How do I start a room?
Enter your name and tap Create a room. Share the room code with your friends, they join with it, and once everyone's in, the host taps Start swiping.
Can other people see how I voted?
No. Your individual swipes are private - nobody can see how you voted. The app only reveals the group's match at the end, never who liked what.
What's the difference between “Everyone says yes” and “Most say yes”?
They're the two match modes. “Everyone says yes” needs a unanimous like on the same title; “Most say yes” picks a title once a majority likes it. The host chooses when creating the room.
How many people can join?
You need at least 2 people to start. It's designed for small groups of friends deciding together.
Where do the movies and shows come from?
Title details come from The Movie Database (TMDB). Popcorn Room uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Is it free?
Yes - Popcorn Room is free to use, with no ads.
Which platforms is it on?
The web app runs in any modern browser, and native apps are available for iOS and Android.
How do I delete my data?
Clear the site's data in your browser (web) or uninstall the app (mobile) to remove the local session. To have room data removed from our side, email us with the relevant room code - see the Privacy Policy for details.
